A cooperative movement dialogue between rider and horse from a psychomotor perspective
Course Instructor: Dr. phil. Ulrike Thiel

Day 1: Interactive Presentation & Fundamental Knowledge

  • 1. The Psychology of Horse and Rider:
Humans and horses are two living beings structured very differently in many aspects. This makes it challenging for both to interact without misunderstandings or misjudgments. Where do such misunderstandings come from, how can they be avoided, and how can we still achieve a cooperative partnership between these two dissimilar beings? Many problems between human and horse simply sit “between the ears”.
  • 2. The Psychomotor Interplay Between Rider and Horse:
How do communication and mutual exchange function during joint movement and training? Here, the independent seat and the rider's subtle aid delivery play a crucial role – alongside the fact that the horse must develop an entirely new body schema for “moving with a rider on its back”. This interactive lecture illustrates, through practical movement and partner exercises, how we can optimally assist the horse in this process.

Day 2: Practical Implementation

Building upon the basics jointly established, participants evaluate what they were able to take away and implement. Individual challenges are discussed, deepened together in practice, and directly supervised.

  • Morning: Interactive Workshop
  • Afternoon: Practical Supervision

Day 1: Interactive Lecture & Fundamentals

  • 1. The Psychology of Horse and Rider:
Humans and horses are two living beings structured very differently in many aspects. This makes it challenging for both to interact without misunderstandings or misjudgments. Where do such misunderstandings come from, how can they be avoided, and how can we still establish a cooperative partnership between these two dissimilar beings? Many problems are noticeably rooted between the ears.
  • 2. The Interplay Between Rider and Horse:
How do communication and mutual exchange function during joint training? The independent seat and aid delivery are essential, as is the horse's new body schema for carrying a rider. Practical movement and partner exercises visualize the path to achieving this.

Days 2 and 3: Practical Implementation & Creation of Training Plans

Based on the basics worked out together on Day 1, there is intensive evaluation of what participants were able to put into practice. Questions and obstacles are discussed, worked through practically, and reinforced. Where necessary, theoretical knowledge is expanded so that robust, individual training plans for rider and horse can be developed at the end of the course.
